r.i.p.

5 bands that i wish never broke up.

Interpol*
technically this band is still together, but as far as i'm concerned carlos d is interpol.
no carlos d = no interpol. simple.

Death From Above 1979: the first time i ever heard dfa was in 2005 at the old tower records on lake (RIP). completely enamored with the album cover i decided to give them a listen then subsequently a huge amount of time and money. i can't front, i dick rode this band like i knew them. got to see what eventually became one of their last shows ever. i even learned a few of their songs on bass. for whatever reason these two couldn't keep it together and went their separate ways. sebastien grainger's solo effort definitely didn't get as much love and affection as jfk's mstrkrft duo. but then again sebastien grainger and the mountains came out a considerable time after the split and mstrkrft was already a household name thanks to their remixes.

A Tribe Called Quest: what kills me more than these niggas calling it quits is how they decided reuniting every two years would be a sufficient consolation. really tribe? gentlemen, get over whatever beef you have and reunite for good. obviously we still like you enough to show up in droves and watch you perform songs we've been listening to for the past 20 years. return the love and come out with some new shit already.

The Unicorns:
i'll never get tired of white boy-funk-electronic-indie-pop or whatever the fuck it was that the unicorns were doing back in the day. after alden left i still stuck with the remaining 2/3 of the group and their weird reincarnations until they finally settled with islands. that was until islands broke up TWICE!

Floetry: one of my favorite outfits. they gave me say yes, one of my favorite songs. they gave me amanda diva, one of my favorite women to look at. they gave me the finger by breaking up TWICE! but they gave me amanda diva and for that i am thankful.

very thankful.
